Debris Free Friday is a weekly social event taking place on the beautiful beaches of Gili Trawagan. Every Friday, divers, tourists, and the local community take to the beaches to rid Gili T of marine debris to earn their FREE BEER!
SeaMade, a marine debris project, are working closely with the Gili Eco Trust to run weekly beach clean ups on Gili Trawangan every Friday from 5-6pm.
Each week a different dive shop or business on the island hosts our Debris Free Friday and every volunteer who joins in and collects a bag of trash is rewarded with a free beer. What better way to spend a Friday evening with a morally satisfying Bintang?!
We need help to sort and weigh all the rubbish collected and separate what can be recycled by the local community and what SeaMade can then upcycle into new beautiful products.
Our aim is to create awareness of plastic pollution for tourists and the local community whilst creating environmentally friendly gifts. Our unique products give new life to previously discarded waste and is a great souvenir for the socially conscious traveller.
So far we have collected over 1500kg of marine debris from the beaches and seas of Gili Trawangan to date! Please help us collect more!
Below you find the list of the clean up hosts from November 2015 till March 2016.
